Ronaldo & Benzema break Blancos record

Image
Real Madrid  won seven consecutive competitive matches without conceding for the first time in their history thanks to their 2-0 win over  Granada  on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo struck his 14th league goal in his last 10 appearances just before the hour and Karim Benzema made sure with 15 minutes remaining. Thed victory opens up a two point-gap over rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand, at the top of La Liga. The hosts struggled to find a way past Ricardo in the Granada goal in the first half with Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Benzema all wasting good openings. Ronaldo's 22nd league goal of the season broke the deadlock after the break, much to the relief of the crowd, with Benzema converting from a Marcelo pass to seal the points, although the victory was overshadowed by an injury to Gareth Bale that saw him substituted at half-time. Granada failed to force a save out of Diego Lopez and their two-game unbeaten run comes to an end, with ...

Ronaldo on level terms with Suarez in European Golden Shoe standings

Image
The Portugal international netted at the weekend to close the gap with his rival, while Alfred Finnbogason moved into fourth place Cristiano Ronaldo  has pulled level with  Liverpool  star  Luis Suarez  in the European Golden Shoe standings following his strike in  Real Madrid 's 2-0 win over Granada on Saturday. The Portugal star and his Premier League rival have now both found the net 22 times in their respective leagues and hold a three-goal lead over third-placed Diego Costa, who failed to add to his tally in Atletico Madrid's 4-2 win over Rayo Vallecano. Rayo's fourth goal was eventually awarded as an Saul own goal. Elsewhere, Heerenveen striker Alfred Finnbogason climbed to fourth place after scoring his 19th goal of the season in the Eredivisie side's 3-1 derby defeat against Cambuur. No other players in the top 10 added to their tally this weekend, but players such as Domenico Berardi, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro all found the net and are just one...

Ronaldo did not win anything & does not deserve Ballon d'Or, says Ribery

Image
The Frenchman has ridiculed the outcome of the award, while also voicing his dismay with the absence of several Bayern stars in the Fifa FifPro World XI Bayern Munich  star  Franck Ribery  has slammed the outcome of the 2013 Fifa Ballon d'Or and feels  Real Madrid  attacker  Cristiano Ronaldo  did not deserve to win the award as the Portugal international did not collect any trophies last year. Ribery initially reacted calmly after last week's Fifa gala in Zurich as he had to settle for third spot in the election behind Ronaldo and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, stating that the prestigious individual award was not one of his goals. However, the Frenchman has now voiced his frustration after all as he believes he should have won the award following his successful 2013 with the Bavarians. "I won everything I could win with Bayern and individually. Ronaldo on the other hand did not win anything," Ribery told  AZ . "I am not sad that I missed out...

Player Ratings: Real Betis 0-5 Real Madrid

Image
0 0 Diego López Rodríguez Comfortable outing in goal as he barely had a save to make. 0 0 Pepe Defended with authority and was an attacking threat at the other end. 0 0 Sergio Ramos Saw yellow for a rash challenge and got away with a few moments of recklessness. 0 0 Marcelo Functioned as an extra winger and was a constant attacking threat overlapping on the left. 0 0 Daniel Carvajal Like Marcelo on the opposite flank he was assured in possession and proved to be a dependable outlet for his team. 0 1 Gareth Bale Too hot to handle for Betis when in full flow on the break, but his most notable contribution came from a dead-ball scenario as he punted a special free kick into the back of the net. 0 0 Xabi Alonso Dependable in the middle, though, was a little legged after picking up a knock during an aerial challenge. 0 0 Luka Modric His wizar...

Betis-Real Madrid Preview: Garrido's strugglers seek third win in 20 Liga games against Ronaldo & Co.

Belaguered  Real Betis  must find a way to stop the best player in the world when Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid  visit on Saturday. The Portugal forward was named as the winner of the 2013 Fifa Ballon d'Or on Monday, and capped that achievement by scoring his 30th goal of the season as Madrid moved into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey with a 2-0 win at Osasuna, a game that saw full-back Fabio Coentrao dismissed late in the second half. And the onus is likely to be on the former Manchester United man in Seville, where Real can keep pace with title rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid by atoning for their loss at Estadio Benito Villamarin last season and deepen the misery surrounding La Liga's bottom club.Betis secured a 1-0 home win over the capital club last season thanks to a first-half goal from Benat - now at Athletic Bilbao, who dumped them out of the Copa del Rey during the week. However, 32-time Spanish champions Madrid have since record...

Cristiano Ronaldo: My goals are part of me

Image
The last 12 months have been anything but run-of-the-mill for  Cristiano Ronaldo . While the 28-year-old Portuguese endured a rare trophyless spell with club side Real Madrid, the highlights came thick and fast both individually and with his country. He began 2013 by captaining  Los Blancos  for the first time, before making an enormous contribution to Portugal’s qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ with a tie-winning performance in an agonising and unforgettable play-off against Sweden. Thanks to his seemingly limitless goals and talent, the Portugal skipper was duly recognised by the international media (and his fellow players and coaches) with his inclusion in the year’s FIFA/FIFPro World XI and by winning the FIFA Ballon d’Or award. Commenting on the latter, Lionel Messi, a four-time winner and his main rival for this year’s accolade along with Frenchman Franck Ribery, said Ronaldo’s win was ‘just and deserving’.   After an evening that will lo...

BREAKING: Man Utd Bids £24million for German Star.

Manchester United are ready to make a £24million bid to land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. United boss David Moyes is an admirer of Gundogan and is keen to land the 23-year-old Germany international this month. Although Gundogan has not played for the Bundesliga side side since August because of a back injury, that has not the Red Devils off pursuing him. It is understood that Gundogan’s representatives have held talks with United, who are desperate to bolster their midfield options. Gundogan still has 18 months remaining on his contract with Dortmund and has been urged by them to make up his mind over his future.

Ferdinand contacted Ronaldo over Manchester United return

Image
The Portuguese was "one of the most dialled people" on the defender's phone during the summer, but he does not expect a move to now happen after he penned a new Real Madrid deal Rio Ferdinand  has revealed he was in constant contact with  Real Madrid  star  Cristiano Ronaldo  over a possible return to  Manchester United  during the summer. The Portuguese, who is tipped to win the Ballon d'Or,  admitted in July he "missed" the Old Trafford outfit amid strenuous speculation regarding a Santiago Bernabeu exit. Ronaldo penned a new five-year contract with Real Madrid in September,  but United manager David Moyes says he one day hopes of coaching the 28-year-old  and Ferdinand admits he tried hard to force a return. "He was one of the most dialled people on my phone at the time! But I think the opportunity has gone now," Ferdinand is quoted as saying by the  Daily Mirror . "If we could have done it, I think it would have been...
